Summary

In 1970 excavations for a multi-storey car park on the site of the Hippodrome Theatre uncovered a number of archaeological features. These took the form of pits, cess pits and two wells. One of the wells was possibly late medieval but the other was later. Several artefacts were also recovered and included medieval and post medieval pottery sherds and many complete 19th century glass bottles.
