Full Description
1905-06.
Extension to Shire Hall under east edge of motte in preparing foundations for Shire Hall extension.
Pot sherds including a waster and cresset lamps dating to around 1050.
One sherd has lattice pattern of applied stamped.
Finds held by NCM.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
It was during these works that a section was cut into the motte revealing its construction with Late Saxon roads beneath.
