Summary

A building demolished on this site in 1964 had a 14th century vaulted brick undercroft. Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery, including a complete medieval jug, were found on the site. Also found were post medieval clay pipes, human and animal bones and a post medieval mason's hammer.

Building standing had cellars with 14th century brick vaulting (dated by [1]). Photographed by [2] before demolition.
Late Saxon pottery from building site.
Post medieval pottery and medieval pottery also. A complete Grimston Ware jug.
Animal and human bone (skull), clay pipe, mason's hammer.
From the odd fragment of human skeletal remains, this site probably lay against the north side of the churchyard of St Cuthbert (NHER 398).
