Full Description
Watney Mann Brewery.
1972. Extension to Watney Mann brewery on the northeast side of Rouen Road, north of junction with Thorn Lane.
Clearance of modern make-up revealed the presence of six rubbish pits and wells.
Pit 2. Grey-brown sandy soil with pebbles and charcoal flecking. Sherd of Thetford Ware.
Pit 3. Dark ashy grey brown charcoal flecked soil. Much bone, some pebbles - medieval sherds.
Pit 7. Chalky grey ashy soil, some flint pebbles. Thetford Ware.
Pit 8. Compact grey ashy sandy soil, flint pebbles, chalk and charcoal flecking. Thetford Ware (Late Saxon) and medieval sherds.
Pit 4. Dark grey brown soil with charcoal flecks, some pebbles, bone fragments, oyster shell. Medieval sherds. [1]
