Summary

This is the possible site of the medieval manor of Breckles, mentioned in the late 16th century. Medieval and post medieval pottery has been found on the site.

Building plot west of Gayton Road, south of area of Bell Saxon cemetery.
Site visited after excavation of footings.
Topsoil about 40cm deep in north part over chalk, about 50cm in southern over sand.
No significant features noted.
Finds: one medieval unglazed sherd, one Late medieval/early post medieval.

Despite this lack of finds, the site is suggested in (S1) as the site of Breckles Manor in 1590, perhaps having moved from site NHER 3603.
