Summary

At some time between 1965 and 1975 a Neolithic flint pick was found by chance at this location. A possible 'pot boiler' site was noted in 1985, although only a dark area of ground was noted during a subsequent examination of its reported location, with no burnt flints or other finds observed. Fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1985 and 2023 recovered Neolithic and Neolithic to Early Bronze Age worked flints; Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman and medieval coins; a medieval/post-medieval jetton and a number of other, Late Bronze Age, Roman and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include a Late Bronze Age button; a Roman lead steelyard weight; Early Saxon brooch fragments and a mount; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval cross, harness fitting, scabbard chape and lead ampulla; medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragments and a lead weight and post-medieval harness mounts, crotal bells, furniture fittings and a rumbler bell.
