Summary

Metal detecting on this site has recovered a range of metal finds from the Bronze Age to the post medieval period. These include a Bronze Age socketed axe and awl, Roman brooches and coins, an Early Saxon brooch, a Late Saxon strap fitting, a medieval seal matrix and post medieval lead stag antlers from a toy. A post medieval portable sundial was also uncovered.

Medieval copper alloy gilt attachment stud for harness pendant.
Medieval/post medieval copper alloy sheet fragment.
Medieval? Large headed copper alloy stud.
Post medieval copper alloy button.
Early post medieval copper alloy mount for leather, heart shaped, two spikes on reverse.
Early post medieval copper alloy hinge plate.
Undated copper alloy collar or band.
Lead 18th century? Stags antlers from toy?

1996. Metal detecting. Context 1.
Medieval. Part of a rectangular repousse panel, showing an animal with short forelegs biting its ?tail or a ?plant stem. Traces of gilding on the higher relief parts. Perhaps part of a buckle plate - very nicely made.
Medieval buckle frame with narrowed offset bar now missing. Outer edge extended into triangular projection with two tiny lobes flanking grooved pin rest. Outer edge decorated with four rows of triangular punch marks. See (S1).
