Summary

A number of prehistoric worked flints are known to have been recovered in the vicinity of Brick Kiln Farm during the 1950s and 1960s, although exactly where is not known. These finds include a Mesolithic tranchet axehead and pick, a Neolithic single-piece sickle, objects that were probably Neolithic transverse arrowheads and a Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age barbed and tanged arrowhead.

Map

No mapped location recorded.

Unprovenanced finds from the area around Brick Kiln Farm, Hockwold Heath (farmhouse at TL 7485 8930).

1952-1964. Stray Find.
Worked flints recovered by F. Curtis:
2 'harpoon barbs' (probably oblique petit tranchet derivative arrowheads)
1 Neolithic single-piece sickle.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Neolithic barbed and tanged arrowhead.
Information from (S1). These finds are listed in the Curtis catalogue (S2) - only the sickle was seen by F. Healy when she examined this collection. These finds are also included in (S3), although here they are listed with the other unprovenanced finds from Hockwold Heath (NHER 14781).

R. Jacobi also examined material in the Curtis Collection and identified two Mesolithic flint implements that are recorded as being from Brick Kiln Farm:
1 Mesolithic 'Hassocks type' tranchet adze.
1 Mesolithic 'Thames' pick.
These objects are described in (S4). Both are almost certainly amongst the objects listed in (S1) as being unprovenanced finds from Hockwold Heath (see NHER 14781).
