Full Description
3 July 1976. Cambridge University Collection of Aerial Photographs.
Photographs shows cropmarks of complex of enclosures and field systems.
D. Edwards (NAU) 18 November 1985.
15 July 1996. NLA aerial photography.
Cropmark area extended to north meeting with southern extent of NHER 24979.
The cropmarks of field divisions, enclosures and tracks appear to be contiguous.
The features suggest these define elements of the medieval to post medieval settlement pattern and fields.
S. Massey (NLA) 18 October 2001.
The cropmarks of the rectilinear enclosures have now been recorded separately as NHER 65650 and NHER 65761.
July 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
A series of fragmented linear ditch features (see above) of a possible medieval to post medieval date, are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The features most likely relate to a series of boundaries, field boundaries and trackways possibly forming part of a field system. Two rectilinear enclosures (NHER 65650 and 65761) of a possible medieval to post medieval date are visible in the north and west of the area. The features have been tentatively suggested to be medieval to post medieval in date and may have related to at least two phases. It is also possible that some elements of the site may be earlier (possibly Iron Age to Roman) in date. It is possible that some of the linear ditch features centred at TG 2282 2716 may relate to modern drainage ditches rather than archaeological features. The cropmarks of post medieval boundaries recorded on the readily available historic maps (for example S4) are also visible on the consulted sources. These features have not been mapped as they are recorded in good detail on the historic maps.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 01 July 2022.
