Summary

Metal working debris was noted during widening of the road in 1972. Previous finds in the area were a 15th century jug found in 1887 and a 16th century jug in 1909.

Removed from Strangers Hall Museum in 1958 for accessioning.

Second half 16th century Frenchen jug.

7 November 1972.
Slag from ashy layer and south of junction with Colegate.
Exposed during widening of Duke Street in connection with new Dukes Palace Bridge. Northwest of number 23 Duke Street on side of street.
