Summary

Fieldwalking in 1989 noted areas of reddish tinge in the soil, provided by briquetage fragments. The most southerly areas had some briquetage with more pottery sherds, which are also scattered across the area. It is thought that this activity is likely to be associated with salt production during the Roman period.
