The earthworks are confined within a sub-triangular area with a relict saltmarsh channel to the south and west and a saltern mound (NHER 27093) to the north. The ridges and furrows are markedly straight and relatively narrow, aligned in an approximately east to west direction. The area was probably saltmarsh, and utilised for the salt production industry up until the late medieval period. These features probably post-date the salterns and sea defence banks to the west, and are probably Post-medieval in date. This is almost certainly for agricultural purposes, and may represent a localised phenomenon for a particular crop that requires particular conditions.
