Full Description
March 1989. Metal-detecting.
Found at [1] (Context 1):
1 Roman rear-hook brooch fragment, mid 1st century AD.
Grid reference supplied by finder [2].
D. Gurney (NLA), 27 April 1989.
Unknown date but probably late 2003. Fieldwalking. Extended to whole field.
Identified at Context 2 (finder's Site 15):
Substantial scatter of Iron Age pottery (377 flint-gritted sherds recovered).
Other finds recovered in the vicinity of Context 2 included:
?Prehistoric burnt flints.
Many prehistoric worked flints, including scrapers and blades.

It should be noted that this is one of several sites in this part of Merton/Watton at which notable concentrations of probable Iron Age pottery have now been identified.
