Summary

Turnpike Farm House is a late 16th- or early 17th-century timber-framed house, constructed in a two-storey, three-cell lobby-entrance pattern. The building was clad in brickwork in 1912.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Farmhouse, c.1600; encased in 1912. Stretcher bond red brick over timber-frame; gabled glazed pantile roof; brick ridge and right-end stack. Three-unit baffle-entry plan. Two storeys; three-window range. Gauged flat brick arched over half-glazed door with open-fronted porch...panels bear inscription "JCC 1912". Mock timbering with rendered panels to gable ends...
INTERIOR: exposed timber frame of c.1600 with studwork, tension bracing and wattle and daub infill; stop-chamfered beams to ground floor; 17th-century brick stack with chamfered bressumer over blocked fireplace; first floor divided into six bays by chamfered and jowled wall posts to stop-chamfered tie butt-purlin roof, mostly rebuilt c.1912 but retaining original principal rafters and queen posts to bay on left."
