Summary

This is the site of a Roman settlement, which continues into NHER 18849. Metal-detecting between 1989 and 2023 recovered Iron Age, Late Iron Age, Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman roof tile and flue tile fragments; a possible Roman tessera; a medieval roof tile; undated copper alloy casting waste; Late Iron Age/Roman (Roman issue), Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; a medieval jetton; post-medieval tokens and a range of other, undated and Middle Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds include undated copper alloy rings and copper alloy unidentified objects; an undated (but potentially Bronze Age) gold unidenified object; a Middle Bronze Age dagger fragment; a Late Bronze Age socketed axehead fragment and scabbard chape; a probable Bronze Age axehead fragment; a Middle Iron Age brooch; Late Iron Age tweezers; Late Iron Age/Roman brooches; Roman brooches, bracelet fragments, finger rings, furniture fittings, a nail cleaner, military harness mount, strap fitting or strap junction, cast ferrule, unidentified copper alloy objects, copper alloy pin, copper alloy probable vessel fragment and pewter vessel fragment; a potentially Roman copper alloy stud, copper alloy cast ring or large bead, copper alloy casting waste and copper alloy unidentified object (partly covered in fired clay) and lead possible steelyard weight; an Early Saxon girdle hanger; a potentially Early Saxon to medieval copper alloy unidentified object; a Middle Saxon pin; a Middle/Late Saxon lead spindle whorl; a Late Saxon stirrup terminal and Anglo-Scandinavian bridle cheek piece; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval harness pendant, mechanism from barrel padlock, possible furniture fitting, arm from figurine, copper alloy seal matrix and lead ampulla; medieval/post-medieval chafing dish fragments, a purse frame fragment and a lead cloth seal and a post-medieval sword-belt buckle, spur, mount, unidentified copper alloy object in the shape of an acorn and lead cloth seal.

One tegula fragment and one Roman tile fragment.
Upper part of Hod Hill brooch. Prominent centred rib on bow, apparently undecorated. 43 to 70 AD.
T shaped brooch, head and upper bow only; spring missing. Double perforated lug; wide bow with slight marginal mouldings. Late 1st to mid 2nd century AD.
Bracelet fragment. Multiple unit type? Zone of diagonal transverse grooves next to fragment of eye? Terminal. 4th century. Terminal of Roman snake's head bracelet.

17 Roman coins, 1 pottery sherd, 1 ?tessera, brooches, bracelet fragments, a finger ring, military harness mount, furniture handle and domed circular 'washer' from furniture, cast ferrule, unidentified copper alloy objects, copper alloy probable vessel fragment and pewter vessel fragment.
?Roman possible lead steelyard weight, copper alloy cast ring or large bead, copper alloy casting waste and copper alloy unidentified object partly covered in fired clay with charcoal inclusions.
Early Saxon girdle hanger.
Medieval buckle, strap end, probable strap mount and mechanism from barrel padlock.
