NHER 25507 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Undated linear cropmarks

2 July 1996. NLA air photography.
Cropmarks faintly visible amongst noisy geological background. A large ring ditch/circular enclosure is visible, with a linear cutting through the centre. A second, larger curvilinear enclosure is present, with a possible pit-like feature in the interior. However, these curvilinear features are likely to be geological in nature.
Two linear features can also be identified, plus a broader ditched feature along the middle of the field. This may be an old field boundary.

July 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The majority of features visible on the aerial photographs (S1-S3) were considered to be geological, only two linear features have been mapped as archaeology. These are aligned northeast-southwest and run from TG 1825 0731 to TG 1810 0698. They are likely to be field boundaries or land division of some kind.

June 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey identified an extensive north-east to south-west aligned positive anomaly that clearly corresponds with the mapped cropmarks.

July 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
A ditch associated with the two mapped cropmarks was encountered in four trenches, although unfortunately no finds were recovered from any of the excavated slots. Its pale, leached and sterile fill did though suggest it may have been of some antiquity.
Few other features were recorded which is confirmation that the majority of the initially recorded cropmarks were indeed of geological origin.
