Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting in this area between 1990 and 2017 recovered late prehistoric worked flint, including an Early Neolithic flint core and blade; sherds of Middle Saxon and medieval pottery; medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and token and Late Saxon to modern metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Saxon dress ornament; a Late Saxon/medieval bridle link or cheek piece fragment; medieval dress accessories, thimbles, a sewing ring, a sword or dagger pommel and a barrel padlock case fragment; a medieval/post-medieval thimble, purse frame and fragment from a copper alloy vessel; a post-medieval buckle, book clasp, dress hook, spoon and a powder charge cap or measure and a post-medieval/modern angler's mallet or "priest".

13th century copper alloy buckle fragment, expanded frame at tongue.

In northwest corner.
10th to 11th century Winchester-style acanthus leaf on thick copper alloy cast tongue-shaped object; on reverse sunken field with two lugs. Part of a loop? Niello inlay in one lobe of leaf, (S1).
