Summary

Metal detecting has revealed the site of a probable Early Saxon inhumation cemetery. Early Saxon finds include brooches, girdle hangers and wrist clasps. Other finds from the site include Iron Age, Roman and medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton; a post-medieval token and a number of other metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Iron Age/Roman brooch; Roman brooches, bracelet fragments and a lock bolt; Middle/Late Saxon pins and a silver strap end; a Late Saxon strap fitting (possibly from a sword belt); medieval and post-medieval dress accessories; medieval mounts, a harness fitting, thimble, dagger scabbard chape, rumbler bell and lead weight; a medieval/post-medieval shoulder bolster from whittle-tang knife, copper alloy vessel fragment, writing lead and silver scabbard chape and post-medieval harness mounts, a thimble and end stop from scale-tang knife.

Late Iron Age/Roman Colchester brooch.
3 Roman brooch fragments, 2 bracelet fragments and a lock bolt.
3 Middle/Late Saxon pins and a silver strap end.
6 medieval buckles, 3 strap ends, 2 strap loops, a lace chape, strap stud, strap mount, bar mount, harness fitting, 2 mounts, thimble, dagger scabbard chape, rumbler bell and lead weight.
Medieval/post-medieval shoulder bolster from whittle-tang knife, copper alloy vessel fragment, writing lead and silver scabbard chape.
1 post-medieval token, 2 harness mounts, a button, thimble and end stop from scale-tang knife.

The Middle/Late Saxon silver strap end and medieval/post-medieval silver scabbard chape were both disclaimed as Treasure (Refs 2024 T758 and 2024 T720 respectively) and returned to the finder.
