Full Description
October 1990. Metal detecting.
Early Saxon cruciform brooch fragment; lower bow only, with catchplate. 'Florid' type, with small lappets carved
with simplified bird's head motif; part foot mask extant. Similar to (S1).
Polaroid NAU (S2).
D. Gurney (NAU), 12 October 1990.
The Early Saxon brooch may be the same as that displayed in Glandford Shell Museum as a square headed brooch. Several Roman coins displayed with it; both labelled as 'found in the parish'. However no Roman coins recorded
as found by same finder as this brooch; many finds of coins from the parish - could be any or none of these.
E. Rose (NAU), 24 October 1997.
