Trenching at [3] in advance of construction poultry sheds produced only 3 Roman sherds.
Fieldwalking produced 2 Roman sherds and 1 late medieval. Detecting found nothing pre 19th century.

November 1998. Metal-detecting.
Roman disc brooch with plain edge (no lugs). Raised rim, central boss and 6-point star with incurved sides. Within the star is decayed enamel, iron red, and outside the star all the enamel has disappeared. On reverse is a scar from a catchplate, and a double pin bar lug retaining a fragment of copper alloy pin. Compare with example in (S2). Roman, 2nd century AD.

Foot of a narrow Roman bow brooch with triangular catchplate with triangular perforations. Could be an Iron Age type (La Tène II or III perhaps) or Roman (Colchester or Dolphin). 1st century BC or 1st century AD.
