Full Description
Late 17th to early 18th century, rare survival. Altered 19th century. T-plan, two storeys, single storey bakehouse to the north. Constructed of brown brick with a slate roof. Large gable stacks with moulded string courses continuing onto walls. 18th century door between canted bay windows and sash windows on upper floor. Interior largely 19th century but with sealed inglenook, chamfered ceiling beams, some original doors and 19th century staircase in cross entry. Bakehouse has pantile roof, end stack. The baking oven and large hearth are intact. The interior details sound very interesting and may suggest an older origin than that given, especially the 'cross entry'.

October 2004.
Detailed investigation of building revealed that an internal wall is the fossilised end wall of what appears to be a medieval aisled hall or raised aisled hall, perhaps 14th century. The brick house added round it is early 17th century, not 18th, but looks very much as if it were designed as a gatehouse; if so it was soon altered. The bakehouse is 19th century.
See report (S3) for further details. These observations are also noted in (S4).
E. Rose (NLA), 9 October 2004.
November 2004.
Further examination revealed an original smoke louver in the former gable.
