Map

December 1990 and January 1991. Metal detecting.
Medieval (?14th century) copper alloy stamp. Probably for leather book bindings. Square sectioned shaft tapering to a pointed tang with a circular 'guard' midway. The tang would have been set in a wooden handle. The stamp itself is lozenge shaped with a lattice pattern in relief in the centre, an acorn at top and bottom, and two 'lobes' at the sides;
in between are four leaves. The motifs are beautifully made, very delicate cross hatching on the acorns for instance.
To be photographed.
