Full Description
Precinct wall to Cathedral Close.
13th century and later with much 18th and 19th century rebuilding. Brick, flint and rubble with tiled coping.

In 1891 Walter Rye complained that the precinct wall in Bishopgate had been demolished in order to build 'vulgar cottages'.

February-July 2015. Watching Brief.
Maintained during alterations to Bishopgate entrance to Lower School (TG 2369 0899). These works saw the widening of the gateway itself by c.0.8m. This was achieved by removing a 19th-century brickwork jamb/pier from the eastern side of the gate and a small adjacent section of the flint rubble precinct wall. It was then finished with new stonework and some brickwork to match that removed.
