February 1954. Listed, Grade II*.
Listing Description:
No 20 Colegate.
Former house, now office. Early 17th century, block parallel to and away from street-line, heightened and extended towards the street in the 18th century. 1743 on rainwater head. Red brick with flint on rear and east walls with stone quoins. Pantile roofs. L-shape plan. East facade: two storeys. Five bays with brick corinthian pilasters. Stone doorcase to right side with attached Tuscan columns, triglyph frieze and pediment. Sash windows throughout with glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches. North facade: two storeys. Two bays with pilasters. Sash windows with glazing bars and rubbed brick flat arches parapet. Interior: finely carved staircase, door and fireplace surrounds. Strapwork plaster ceiling in north ground floor room. 17th century stair turret to rear of south block.
