No 1 Guildhall Hill is amongst the buildings listed in thesis (S3), which considers the 13th- to 17th-century architecture of Norwich. The three-storey street range is described as timber-framed front and back on the upper floors, with the numbering of the roof trusses showing that the building formerly extended along the street-line for another six bays. Only the timber-framed walls and roof date to the 16th century. At right angles to the street range is a two-storeyed building ranged alongside Labour-in-Vain Yard that is timber-framed at first floor with a full-height rubble rear wall. This rear range may be slightly later in date.
