Summary

This building's former use is unknown but it now operates as a shop. It dates to the 16th century with alterations made from the 18th century onwards. Through amalgamation the building extends through to Upper Goat Lane. The 20th century shop front has a recessed door to the left-hand side. Study of the building shows it may once have been double-jettied at the north end.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Former use unknown, now shop. 16th century with 18th century onwards alterations. Rendered. Pantile roof. Through amalgamation the building extends through to Upper Goat Lane. Three bays. 20th century shop front with recessed door to left-hand side. First floor sash windows with glazing bars and simply moulded surrounds."

1981. Norwich Survey.
Street range, three storey, gutted and refronted. Evidence of double jetty at north end. Second floor raised late 17th century? Rear of block now made up of narrow Victorian industrial ranges.

No 16 is amongst the buildings listed in thesis (S3), which considers the 13th- to 17th-century architecture of Norwich. It is described as a two-storeyed building with timber-framed first floor wall. There is a long rear range that is constructed with flint rubble walls and has a 17th-century roof. The relationship between these two buildings couldn't be established.
