The house here was once divided into four but now exists as two properties (6 and 9/10), with an unrelated undercroft nearby. The house dates to the 17th century with later alterations and restorations, but the undercroft is earlier and of 15th century date. The house has a painted flint rubble exteriorwith brick dressings and a pantile roof with brick chimneys. The undercroft is L-shaped in plan with two phases of construction, but unlike others it is positioned away from the street line.

Map

June 1972. Listed, Grade II*.
House, later divided into four, now two. 15th century undercroft, 16th century? 17th century with later alterations and 19th century restoration. Painted flint rubble with brick dressings, part-rendered; pantile roof. Brick chimneys. L-plan. Two storeys and attic. Undercroft: L-shape plan composed from two phases of construction. The end result is three bays with single order, diagonal and apex ribs. There is a small opening in the vault (now blocked) that was probably connected with a ladder entry, and there is a garderobe shaft in the west wall. The rib pattern shows that the second phase entry into the undercroft was in the re-entrant angle. The undercroft is positioned away from the street line.
Undercroft does not relate to No.6 (the above building).
