Summary

In 1989 a watching brief was conducted in the churchyard area during the construction of an underground store. No archaeological features except for grave cuts were discovered. Objects recovered include human bone, post-medieval pottery and clay pipe sherds.

St Martin-at-Palace Churchyard.

1989. Watching brief in area in St Martin-at-Palace graveyard being excavated for construction of underground store.
No features seen except grave cuts.
Natural orange gravel subsoil was approximately 2.5m below ground level in churchyard.
Finds include human bone, post-medieval pottery and clay pipe.
The size of the excavated area was 5.5m x 5.0m and was on the northeast side of the graveyard by the boundary wall.
