Full Description
Three storeyed street range with a carriage entry on the left-hand side that leads to Rose Yard. The yard is flanked by a long two storeyed building made up of three separate properties.
Alterations, especially those relating to the 19th century and 20th century use of the building as a pub, make if difficult to interpret this complex. The front wall of the street range is faced with 18th/19th century brick, although the thickness of the wall could suggest a trapped timber frame. No tangible dating criteria; the size of the room, and the position of the boxed-in ceiling beams suggest a 17th century date.
The block adjoining the street range has a full-height, flint rubble rear wall and the front wall is timber framed at the first floor. The butt-purlin roof suggests a 17th century date for this section.
Nothing survives in the middle block that is earlier than the 19th century.
The end block has full-height flint rubble walls, and two windows indicative of a 17th century date. Information from (S1).
