Full Description
February-April 1993. Watching Brief.
Observation of pipe trench along Timberhill, Orford Hill and Orford Street.
Findings tended to confirm that Timberhill is of Late Saxon origin but suggest road line may have changed. Various fills possibly of cellars found and at one point a wall seems to block the course of the road. Latest surface formed of oak setts. A few late medieval sherds found.
See report (S1) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S2).
E. Rose (NLA) 18 October 1993.
