Summary

Carlton Gardens are a terrace of houses built in the mid to late 19th century, comprising a basement, two storeys and an attic each. The ground floor entrances are reached by flying bridges, and the partition walls rise above the roof in a London Building Act style. Carlton Gardens are an excellent example of type, well converted to flats in around 1980.

Carlton Gardens, Surrey Street.
Terrace of houses mid-late 19th century, comprising basement, two storeys and attics. Ground floor entrances reached by flying bridges. Canted bay windows to basement and ground floor; these and entrances have moulded subclassical detailing. String course rises to form hoods to arched first floor windows. Ornate dormers with finials. Partition walls rise above roof in London Building Act style. Excellent example of type, well converted to flats in around 1980.
