12/21 April 1997. Observation of development of garage site.
Watching brief on ground works prior to construction of sheltered housing development. The top 0.5m across the whole site was 'raked' with the toothed bucket of a 360 degree tracked machine. This disturbed modern material only. Three deeper excavations were made to remove concrete foundations/drains etc. These revealed 0.5m of modern material below this 1.0 to 2.0m of Victorian makeup. Below this were possible pre-Victorian fore shore deposits.
No artefacts of any kind were recovered.
