Summary

The convent of Notre Dame is a large house, now converted for use as a convent. Dating to the late 18th century the building is of red brick with a hipped pantile roof and two brick ridge chimneys. Surrounding the house and probably contemporary with it are the gardens, containing ornamental walks, formal gardens, and a kitchen garden. The land was acquired by the convernt in 1865, and there was very little change in the garden throughout the 19th century. Today much of area, particularly to the north, is built over by the school but planting remains to south, as does the wall.
