Summary

In 1990 a metal detectorist found a broken 14th century seal matrix. It is decorated with a bird in a hand and has a message that could say 'Alas I am caught'.

1990. Metal detecting.
Broken circular seal matrix. 14th century, with facetted handle (loop broken off). Bird in hand motif, legend probably whimsical, perhaps in French (?... SV PRIS = am caught, from something like 'Alas I am caught'.
