Summary

Analysis of aerial photographs of this site reveals cropmarks of a possible village. It is possible that Castle Rising village once spread this far but has since shrunk. Fieldwalking and metal-detecting at this location between 1990 and 2025 recovered Late Saxon pottery sherds; Roman and medieval coins; a medieval jetton and a number of other metal objects, including an undated copper alloy ring; Roman brooches; medieval buckles, a belt fitting and cauldron foot; a medieval/post-medieval candle holder and a post-medieval drop handle and strap fitting or strap slide.
