1995. February 1995. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of two areas. Although a few pit- and ditch-type anomalies were identified in the eastern area (Area A) their ephemeral nature meant that an archaeological interpretation could only be tentative. No potentially archaeologically significant anomalies were identified in the western area (Area B).
See report (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2015.
March 1995. Trial Trenching.
Six trenches excavated, one in the car park adjacent to The Chequers public house and the other five targeting anomalies identified by the earlier geophysical survey.
Revealed two ditches containing 12th/13th century pottery. Other features proved to be of recent origin. See report (S3) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S4).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2008.98).
E. Rose (NLA) 7 June 1995. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 30 March 2015 and 5 May 2019.
