Full Description
August 1990. Fieldwalking and metal-detecting.
Found west of Icehouse Farm:
1 Mesolithic flint blade (soft hammer-struck, patinated).
1 Roman coin and 2 pottery sherds (greyware), 1 copper alloy boss and terret fragment (Polaroid NCM) and 1 lead steelyard weight (weight 81.27g).
1 medieval double-hooked fastener with one hook missing, decorated with lozenge-shaped plaque rivetted in place with rocker-arm decorative borders and cross-motif in centre (Polaroid NCM).
Flint identified by J. J. Wymer (NAU) 11 September 1990 and metal objects by W. Milligan (NCM) and
S. Margeson (NCM). Coin identified by E. B. Green (NCM); see list in file.
The Norwich Castle Museum holds a number of pottery sherds from this site (NWHCM : 1999.324.5.1). These are however listed as medieval - it is unclear whether these are additional objects not initially seen by the museum or a confusion with the 'greyware' sherds listed above.
W. Milligan (NCM) 23 August 1990. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 18 March 2014.
