Summary

In 1975 a limited trial excavation took place on this site and evidence from the Late Saxon period onwards was noted. This included post holes and foundation slots from the 11th and 12th centuries, small pits in the 13th to 14th centuries, and the construction of a 15th century brick and flint building and later vaulted undercroft, which was later remodelled on a poorer scale.

1975. Norwich Survey excavation by M. W. Atkin. This was a limited trial excavation.
Late 11th and 12th century: Heavily disturbed post holes and foundation slots.
13th-14th century: A complex series of small pits.
15th century: Fragmentary traces of a flint and brick walled building.
Late 15th century: Construction of an 'L' plan building with a vaulted undercroft on the street frontage.
16th-17th century: Remodelling of the building on a poorer scale after a period of decay.
