Full Description
A brickworks is depicted at this location in Bylaugh Park (NHER 30496) on the 1906 Ordnance Survey 25-inch map (S1). According to Breckland District Council this is a former brickworks with a well preserved kiln.
It is uncertain whether this is the brickyard used for building Bylaugh Hall (NHER 3006) in 1849 to 52, or a more recent yard.
E. Rose (NLA), 25 November 1991
September 1993. Field Observation.
This is a very well preserved kiln with an upper storey added as a pavilion sometime after 1906. Ruins were observed of a building to the south of the kiln that is marked on the 1906 map (S1). A scatter of roofing tiles is all that remains of buildings depicted to the north of the kiln while no trace could be seen of those to the west. Remains of a pug mill and a well or cistern were identified in the northwest of the area.
See (S2) in file.

2001.
The District Council reports that restoration of the kiln was complete in 2001. The kiln has been preserved and has been converted for residential use.
