Timber framed house, subdivided.

1988-1991. Building Survey.
Survey of 23, 25 and 27 The Street by Brooke Society in 1988 (updated 1990/91).
Regarded as a pair of 17th century semi-detached houses, on account of two bread ovens found; later extended, possibly as an inn.
See report (S1) for further details. See also (S2).
E. Rose (NLA), 2 December 1991. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 April 2015.

(S3) sees this, probably correctly, as one typical three cell 17th century house; the back to back fireplaces are visible, also mortises for two service doors at other end.
States it was made into a terrace of cottages in the 19th century.
E. Rose (NLA), 25 November 1998.

However it would appear that the (S1) is correct, and that the terrace door does represent two 17th century houses each of one room and services on ground floor. Upper floor raised in height, probably when façade added and building extended in 19th century.
E. Rose (NLA), 11 October 2003.
