Full Description

A polygonal pillbox, faced with brick inside and out, located on a steep slope above wasteland used for shooting. The door is partly blocked.
E. Rose (NLA), 6 January 1992.
1994? Field Observation.
Common 1940 type 22 pillbox on a steep slope above wasteland. This pillbox formed part of the defences of RAF Swanton Morley (NHER 2830).
See record form (S1) in file by source [1].
D. Walker (NLA), July 1996.
2002. English Heritage Management Protection Programme site.
The pillbox could not be accessed at the time of the survey, but"the valley is under rough grass and scrub and is maintained as a wildlife habitat" (S2). It is one of six surviving pillboxes located around the perimeter of Swanton Morley airfield, all of the same type. A brick gun tower and a spigot mortar also survive. However, the spigot mortar base has been moved from its original location and destruction of one of the pillboxes and the gun tower is planned in order to allow gravel extraction in the area.
See copy of 'Alternative action' (S2) in file.
D. Gurney (NLA), 24 April 2002.
NGR corrected from original TF 9932 1772.
M. Horlock (NLA), 27 March 2003.
March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
This pillbox is visible on aerial photographs (S1) and forms part of the outlier defences for Swanton Morley airfield (NHER 2830).
S. Massey (NMP), 03 March 2008.
