Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking in 1991 recovered ?Early Saxon and undatable pottery sherds; a Bronze Age copper alloy sword blade fragment and two Early Saxon brooch fragments. A Mesolithic or later quartzite pebble mace was found here in 1994. It has been suggested that the nature of the Early Saxon finds from this and two adjacent sites may indicate the presence of a cemetery of this date.

Identified by P. Robins (NCM), see description in file. This discovery was reported in (S3).
Although recorded as probably Mesolithic it should be noted that these objects are generally seen as not closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
A. Rogerson (NLA) 5 October 1994. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 5 July 2014.

It is suggested in (S4) that Early Saxon finds from this site and nearby NHERs 25670 and 25670 potentially indicate the presence of a cemetery of this date.
