Summary

A watching brief at this site before the construction of the Yelverton to East Carleton gas pipeline recovered prehistoric burnt flints, Roman, medieval and post medieval fragments of pottery and post medieval glass.

May-August 1992. Fieldwalking and Metal-Detecting Survey and Watching Brief.
Fieldwork carried out along route of Yelverton to East Carleton Gas Pipeline, in area formerly a separate field at western edge of site (Survey Blocks 166-170).
Finds recovered during initial survey include:
Prehistoric flint 'pot boilers'.
1 Roman pottery sherd and 2 brick/tile fragments.
24 medieval brick/tile fragments and glass.
3 post-medieval pottery sherds and 12 brick/tile fragments.
No archaeologically significant features or deposits identified during a subsequent watching brief undertaken during topsoil stripping and the excavation of the pipe trench itself.

There are also minor discrepancies between the information given in (S1) and that which was initially supplied following the completion of the fieldwork.
The finds have been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1995.75).
