Summary

Metal detecting in 1993 recovered an Early Saxon gilded copper alloy mount set with red enamel. Two symmetrical animals in profile are depicted on the mount.

January 1993. Detector find.
Early Saxon gilded bronze rectangular mount with rim around edge and central rectangular setting with red enamel. Around this a chip-carved border of Style I animal decoration in the form of two profile animals each occupying two sides of the rectangle, with head and front of body and front leg and three toes on short sides, and rest of body and hind leg with three-toed foot on long sides. Four shanks on reverse. Very symmetrical composition.
