Summary

Metal-detecting here during the period 1992 to 1997 and 2009 to 2011 recovered a diverse range of multi-period objects. Finds included prehistoric flint flakes; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; Iron Age and post-medieval pottery and a range of Iron Age, Romano-British, Early Saxon, medieval and post-medieval metal objects. These included a Roman stud with enamelling, Romano-British cosmetic mortars, an extraordinarily elaborate Early Saxon Cruciform brooch, a medieval/Saxon biconical lead spindle whorl, part of a medieval knife and buckles and a post-medieval jetton and furniture fitting.

Biconical lead spindle whorl with relief decoration of oblique lines. 67.9g. Probably medieval or Late Saxon.

One post-medieval token.

Late 1996/early 1997. Metal detector finds.
Two flint flakes, one short in unpatinated brown flint, the other incomplete (bulbar end missing) with greyish white patina. Both with extensive edge wear/damage, perhaps accidental. Undatable prehistoric. Identified by P. Robins (NCM).
