Summary

Prehistoric flints, fragments of post medieval pottery, and post medieval metal items including a coin, a bell or vessel rim, and a rowel spur were found during a field survey carried out by the NAU on the Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline. The cropmarks previously recorded under this number are now recorded as NHER 27266. Excavation in 1999 recovered a number of finds of late prehistoric and post-medieval date and revealed a large natural feature possibly of periglacial origin.

Field survey on proposed route of Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline (Field/Location RDX 32.1; Context 2)
5 Prehistoric flint flakes and retouched flakes were recovered along with 8 sherds of post medieval pottery, 3 fragments of post medieval building material, and post medieval metal items including a coin, a bell or vessel rim, and a rowel spur.

March-May 1999. Excavation.
Excavation on route of Bacton to Great Yarmouth pipeline (Site 9N).
In the northern area of the site a shallow ditch was recorded running across the northern part of the site and cutting a pit located in the corner with both features being of unknown date. A large natural feature probably of periglacial origin. A single sherd of grog-tempered pottery probably of Bronze Age date, three flint flakes and a scarper were recovered from various fills within the large natural feature.
In the southern area of the site excavated ditches were found to correspond with previously identified cropmarks and a number of natural features possibly tree throws were recorded along with a possible archaeological pit feature.
