Important timber framed building, probably 16th century. Jettied with shop front, possibly partly used for industrial process. Stack inserted and building extended in 17th century. Now restored.
Barn, also restored, is late 17th century.
See report (S2) and architecural plans (S3) in file.
E. Rose (NLA), 23 April 2002.
(S4) suggests that this building's shop windows in such an isolated position were because of its prominent location on a crossroads. The writer believes that traditional market halls had open ground floors, subdivided by partitions and let out to traders.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 March 2008.
