Full Description
September 1993. Trial Trenching.
Various pits and post holes with no dating evidence, perhaps not of great age.
No trace of buildings marked on (S1).
Topsoil produced a few medieval/post medieval sherds, clay pipe and post-medieval buckle.
Surprising lack of medieval occupation raises questions as to extent of town within defences.
See report (S2) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2022.192).
E. Rose (NLA) 5 October 1993. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 1 April 2015 and 5 December 2022.
