Summary

Fieldwalking and metal-detecting at this location between 1993 and 2024 recovered a Neolithic flint scraper; Early Saxon and Late Saxon to medieval pottery sherds; medieval ceramic roof tile fragments; a molten copper alloy blog; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval tokens; a post-medieval jetton and a range of other, Roman to post-medieval finds. These metal finds include Roman brooches and a cosmetic spoon; an Early Saxon girdle hanger; an Early/Middle Saxon hanging bowl escutcheon; a Late Saxon buckle; a Late Saxon/medieval lead weight; Late Saxon to post-medieval lead spindle whorls; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval copper alloy vessel spout, lead pot mends and lead seal matrix; medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragments and a lead weight and post-medieval scale-tang knife fragments, jews harps, thimbles, crotal bells, a clapper bell, harness mount, hasp and mount. There are also reports of a cannonball having been found in this field.
