Summary

A rectangular block of limestone with a smaller block on top survives in the base of an 18th or early 19th century wall in the grounds of the former rectory here. Documents suggest that a cross once stood here and these components may be part of its base.

Map

In base of 3.6m (12ft) high wall of grounds of former rectory. Wall apparently 18th/early 19th century.
Rectangular block of limestone, with smaller block on top. Apparently with tooling, making it unlikely this is simply a Georgian import. Probably brought from church ruins (see NHER 2380).
Seen by E. Rose (NLA) November 1993.

However, source [1] states that adjacent green now occupied by Methodist Chapel is marked on Waterman's map of 1617 as Cros (sic) Green. Could these fragments be parts of a cross? Or does the name simply refer to a crossroads?
E. Rose (NLA) 22 December 1997.
